waiting for the call.. update: WOOHOO!!
Posted by emilythehopeless on February 17, 2008
so… as katarina said i should.. i ate delicious soup and started knitting a dog sweater for darby. it’s freaking impossible to find coat/sweaters big enough for her. needless to say it’s going to take forever. we watched star wars last night.. i’m feeling guilty for how all this IF shit is taking over our lives so watching star wars is like a small gift to steve. every day i see other women in the RE’s office all alone.. and i have never been there by myself.. not once. he is always by my side.. writing down notes for me and being a part of everything. i love my husband so very much.
i had my ultrasound this morning.. here are the results:
2/17/08 ultrasound CD7:
* lining: 6.4mm
* right ovary: (15×15) 15mm, [13x11]12mm, [14x9] 11.5mm, [11x13] 12mm
* left ovary: [14x10] 12mm, [13x8] 10.5mm, [13x8] 10.5mm
* not as many less than 10! hooray!
the super nice doctor that did the ultrasound said it looked promising.. but of course we have to wait and see what my estrogen level is. he said we may “coast”.. which means giving little or no more Gonal F with the idea being the biggest follicle(s) would coast along and keep growing, while we are starving all the small ones. makes sense to me. we all joked about how wonderful my ovaries are for IVF.. so worst case i’ll be counting down the days until september when i can switch to steve’s insurance and we can start IVF.. hopefully we won’t get to that point, but i’m not going to hold my breath.. i have to keep as realistic as possible.
i’ll be staring at my phone until they call with my estrogen level!
i will update in this post later today.. {fingers crossed} please let me have good news!!!!
p.s. – i write back to comments, in the comments FYI.. i so very much appreciate any and all comments and advice.. truly.. it means a lot to have support and comfort from you wonderful ladies!
update!!
nurse from my RE called.. my estrogen is 1050.. wow!
my instructions are to inject 37.5 Gonal F tonight..
and TRIGGER tomorrow!! yayayayayayayay!!!
then IUI tuesday and IUI wednesday!
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m so freaking excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and slightly terrified)

mmm…comfort and advice….I can manage that!
Woo hoo! grow follies grow!
It sounds like you have a great RE. I really admire the ones that actually WATCH what’s going on with your levels and ovaries and hear too many stories of the other time.
I actually do feel a little guilty for how great Mr. JB treats me. He is at every single appointment, blood draw, ultrasound. I can’t do much for him, other than encouraging him to get out the door to go mountain biking if the weather is OK and going to see movies on his own when it isn’t. I try to do things for him and remind him I appreciate him. It never quite feels like enough.

Ooh. Soy reminder: since soy contains phytoestrogens, it can mess with your levels a bit. I’m sure you had that in mind, but I just thought of it…

yeah i know about soy.. it was a pain when i first started cutting down on it since i’m vegan.. but per my dr. i can have it 1-2 times a week..

I figured you did, but I didn’t want you to be missing it…
So happy your trigger is coming so quickly! HOORAY!

So glad you’re cycle is a go! This conversation about soy is making me nervous. Does that also apply to soy milk (the only thing I can drink now is unsweetened soy milk)? And what exactly does soy do?

katarina – funny how you said i have a great RE.. haha.. i guess you are right.. i just find him annoying because he keeps making me go back!! haha! aaah i’m triggering today! woohoo!!
rachel – yes soy milk also applies. i used to drink it every day.. but i switched to rice milk.. which i actually like better now. soy can be, as kat said, is a phytoestrogen.. meaning a form of estrogen.. so it can mess with everything.. soy can be used like clomid too.. high doses for 5 days.. and can work in some people. but you should try to reducing soy a bit to see if it helps! can you drink rice milk?

I’m a big fan of the almond milk. Especially the unsweetened vanilla…yummy.

Hi Emily, thanks for the comment (and responding to my last comment, which I know is a super-touchy subject for almost everyone). Do you have an e-mail address? You can write me at longdistanceinfertility@gmail.com (it gets forwarded to my regular e-mail). I would love some recipes! The problem is that I am on a ‘no simple carb’ diet (no rice, pasta, bread, corn, carrots, most fruits), and once I cut out soy, I’m going to be back to hard-boiled eggs, hard cheese, nuts, brocoli, and salads with sugar-free dressing. I would love some food advice, since you seem to be much more creative at cooking than me. I am definitely going to try and find almond milk tonight – sounds good.
